Non-Surgical Treatment

This usually involves a special cleaning called scaling and root planing to remove bacteria and tartar deposits from below the gumline.  It is used to shrink your periodontal pockets and help your gum tissue heal from the bacterial infection
called periodontitis.  It is also referred to as a “deep cleaning” and local anesthetic is commonly used for your comfort.  Non-surgical treatment also includes medications that can be used to aid in pocket reduction, like subgingival antibiotics, oral medication and special mouthrinses.  There is little to no discomfort afterwards and it may take two visits to complete.
